In the last century, women earned the right to vote with the nineteenth amendment to the constitution. In the world of titles, the American Title Association lost its “men’s” requirement, and name. The association also encouraged state groups to do the same. The integration of women in the title industry is best illustrated by Jessie L. Chapman. She’d been profiled by the American Land Titles Association several times in her day. She’s widely considered the first woman to occupy an official position in the American Title Association. Among her peers, she was revered and admired. She was the Ohio Land Title Association President from 1918 to 1919. She began the Land Title Abstract and Trust Company and became Vice President of the company. Her accomplishments were indicative of the title industry entirely ahead of its time and celebrating women within its ranks and business.
